Two Trophies for Games People Play at Lubeck

Games People Play has been awarded with the Baltic Film prize for the Best Nordic Feature Film at Nordische Filmtage Lübeck. In addition, the film’s writer-director, Jenni Toivoniemi, was awarded with Friends of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck prize for the Best Feature Film Debut at the same festival.

The jury for the Baltic Film prize praised Toivoniemi’s film “For the brilliantly orchestrated cinematic journey to elegant feast lost between baroque and contemporary times together with talented cast and fresh look at the turning point in young adults’ lives.”

Games People Play is Toivoniemi’s first full length feature film as a director. The award for the best debut film is decided by a jury of 300 Friends of the Nordic Film Days.

Games People Play had its premier at the Göteborg International Film Festival, 2020, where it, as the only Finnish film, competed for the Dragon Award. Both the audience and critiques favourite, the film is a comedy of the tragedy of being forever young. The film features Emmi Parviainen, Eero Milonoff, Samuli Niittymäki, Paula Vesala, Iida-Maria Heinonen, Paavo Kinnunen, Laura Birn and Christian Hillborg.

The 62th Nordische Filmtage Lübeck was organised at 4.-8.11.2020. The film is produced by Venla Hellstedt and Elli Toivoniemi, and it is distributed by Nordisk Film.
