Once I Was a Dragonfly picks the Critic’s Choice Award at DocPoint

Elli Toivoniemi’s Once I Was a Dragonfly received the Critic’s Choice award at DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival. The film critic Neil Young (The Hollywood Reporter, Sight & Sound) picked two of his favourites from the Finnish Premieres programme series. The other awarded film is Purity and Danger (directed by Elina Talvensaari).

Young describes Toivoniemi’s film as follows: “A delightful celebration both of Finnish eccentricity and the delicate wonders of the country’s natural environment, ONCE I WAS A DRAGONFLY (Kesäni sudenkorentona) winningly alternates between archival footage – here filmed by the subject himself over a period of 20 years – and original materials.”
