Force of Habit awarded with the Nordisk Film Prize
Tuffi’s feature film Force of Habit (orig. Tottumiskysymys) won the Nordisk Film Prize in the annual Jussi Awards ceremony held last night in Helsinki.
Nordisk Film Prize is awarded annually for an extraordinary effort within Finnish film. In her powerful acceptance speech the co-director and producer Elli Toivoniemi pronounced: “We are doing everything we can, so that these stories will not be your stories”.
Force of Habit was nominated for a Jussi Award in total of four categories: Best Film (Elli Toivoniemi), Best Director (Kirsikka Saari, Elli Toivoniemi, Anna Paavilainen, Alli Haapasalo, Reetta Aalto, Jenni Toivoniemi, Miia Tervo), Best Screenplay (Kirsikka Saari, Elli Toivoniemi, Anna Paavilainen, Alli Haapasalo, Reetta Aalto, Jenni Toivoniemi, Miia Tervo) and Best Supporting Actor (Johannes Holopainen).
The feature follows the lives of various women throughout one day, questioning the existing power structures and exploring gender discrimination, and is part of a film anthology by the same name that consists of a feature, 11 episodes and an impact campaign.
